On October 6, WJC took part of the ABCs of Conflict training on the road and provided a four hour professional development session to Alliance College-Ready Public Schools counselors. The training focused on how best to communicate with students to further strong relationships and social-emotional learning.
These skills are especially important when counselors need to address challenging situations with students, such as angry outbursts in the classroom. Young actors created scenes related to the participants' work and illustrated how various communication strategies utilized by educators affect students' behavior and feelings of connection to their campuses. Alliance is the largest charter school network in Los Angeles.
