WJC brings Conflict Resolution Education to Holmes Avenue Elementary

WJC has been working the past two years with Holmes Avenue Elementary School to bring conflict resolution education to the campus. This Spring, 3rd through 6th grade teachers each chose leaders from their classes to receive training as peer mediators for the school.

From February through April, these dynamic students met once a week with their teachers and trainers from WJC to learn conflict resolution skills – how to analyze what is going on, to think about the feelings involved, to listen and speak in ways that both help solve problems they are facing, themselves, and resolve conflicts between their peers, and the process of mediation. By the end of the training, the students were able to start mediating conflicts among their peers and now serve as powerful agents of peace on the Holmes Avenue campus.
