I’ve been teaching for 23 years, the last seven as a substitute teacher in the same school district. I’ve seen some patterns that trouble me - predominantly Black students being disciplined and singled out as “trouble” and students pointing out teachers who treat students of color poorly. The post-election climate did not help as many children were distressed over the immigration status of their families.
