Building a Legacy: The History of the WJC Campus

The Maxwell House and the surrounding bugalows have always been woven into the fabric of Pasadena, serving the community through many chapters of local history. Originally built in 1929 by philanthropist George H. Maxwell as part of the renowned Vista del Arroyo Hotel, the Maxwell House has hosted everything from lavish gatherings to wartime hospital operations, civic forums, and creative showcases—always reflecting the needs and spirit of its neighbors.

Since the early 1990s, Western Justice Center has been honored to serve as steward of this historic landmark. In partnership with the City of Pasadena, WJC led the transformation and restoration of the Maxwell House and three neighboring bungalows into a vibrant nonprofit campus dedicated to advancing peaceful conflict resolution, justice, and equity. We have invested in ongoing renovation and responsible care, ensuring that this beloved building continues to inspire, mobilize, and serve our diverse community.

Your donations are vital to keeping this rich legacy alive. Every contribution helps preserve the WJC Campus, including the Maxwell House, for future generations—ensuring that it remains a welcoming hub for education, dialogue, and positive change in Pasadena and beyond.
