WHY ATTEND EMPOWER?
WJC empowers people to strengthen their communities by growing the conflict resolution skills & capacity of youth, educators, schools, and community partners. Join us to celebrate the youth and educators who are using mediation and other restorative practices to build a culture of peace, justice, inclusion and equity in their schools.
WHAT STUDENTS SAY ABOUT OUR WORK
“Interviewing other students at the Western Justice Center Peer Mediation Invitational was like stepping into a space where humanity took center stage, where conversations were infused with a sincere dedication to fairness and empathy. It wasn’t just about learning about social justice; it was about feeling it, about seeing how it can touch lives and inspire action. That experience left me deeply moved, reaffirming my belief in the power of people coming together to create a more equitable world. ”
“I grew up all the way to 11th grade feeling like I was disconnected from my culture entirely. However, once I had those [restorative] circles, once I finally saw that I had a community around me that actually shared the same themes through the same experiences that I did, I felt like I finally connected with my community.
Participating in circles will definitely help in terms of the intergenerational trauma as well. If we’re able to make this district wide from Pre-K all the way to 12th grade, that will definitely help them form that community, form that bond.”
